My grandfather worked as a carpenter most of his life, in early 1910-1920 he went to Chicago for a couple of years and built houses. He returned home to Sweden before the “hard years” in north america.

  1. My uncle went there [US] 1920, but he never returned — at least not to live. He visited after 42 years though.

Imagine, just the actual TRIP, back then! Nowadays we board a comfortable aircraft and spend a number of hours there.
